MaryKathyrine Tran, MS (2019) serves as the Assistant Director for the Division of Diversity and Inclusion at the Ohio University Women’s Center  in Athens, Ohio.   During her tenure there, she has focused on strategies to increase retention of multicultural women at Ohio University. MaryKathyrine established the AWLC ALAANA+ Women’s Leadership Cohort (AWLC) in 2019, a cohort program geared towards first-and second-year women at Ohio University (ALAANA – African American/African/Black, Latina/Latinx, Asian American/Asian, Arab/Middle Eastern, Native American, and all multicultural individuals).  This program focuses on personal, professional, and leadership development through speakers, individual leadership mentoring sessions, and group activities.  Despite the challenges of COVID-19, MaryKathyrine was able to double participation in the program during her leadership.

MaryKathyrine has also been involved in multiple speaking engagements, mentoring, programmatic leadership, and curriculum development efforts focusing on diversity, imposter syndrome, implicit bias, microaggressions, and leadership.

She completed her M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2019. The following year, she earned a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University’s Derek Bok Center.

MaryKathyrine was nominated by several colleagues and students at Ohio University, who noted her natural ability to support and mentor those around her, innovative and graceful approach to navigating the challenges in embracing  diversity work and with COVID-19, her exemplary work ethic and significant contributions to the Ohio University mission, faculty, staff and community.
