Dr. M. Geneva Murray

Director of Women's Center and Lecturer
Ohio University

Dr. M. Geneva Murray became the Director of the Women's Center at Ohio University in in November 2015 and teaches courses in the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, as well as a course on mentoring adolescent girls in the Patton College of Education. Through her work at the Women's Center, she oversees several leadership programs, including Women Leading OHIO, an early career faculty and staff development program. She is passionate about mentoring, and oversees a seventy person mentoring program, in addition to running various leadership and professional development workshops. Her work on leadership for women was recognized in 2017 by the International Leadership Association’s Women and Leadership Affinity Group’s award for Outstanding Practice with Local Impact.

 

She previously worked as the Director of the Women's Center, and a Lecturer, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. While in D.C. for her Masters, she served as the Education Coordinator for the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum (now known as the Belmont-Paul Women's Equality National Monument), which is home of the National Woman's Party, and as the Public Policy Assistant for the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action. During the course of her PhD, she became active in roller derby. For her dissertation, she conducted a study on all-female roller derby, paying particular attention to spectators’ interpretation of the sport. She has a BA in Sociology from Texas Tech University, an MA in Public Policy with a concentration in Women's Studies from George Washington University and a PhD in Women's Studies from the University of York in England. She also took courses at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
